Knowing God the Son, Pt 1
This week we transitioned our focus from God the Father to God the Son in our Back 2 the Basics sermon series. John 17:20-26 discusses the union and relationship between God the Father and Jesus. It emphasizes that Jesus is God, JUST as the Father is God. They may have different roles, but Jesus is ALL God and He operates with the same level of strength and power. In that power and position, He chose to be born of the virgin Mary and He subjected Himself to become dependent on a finite being. Jesus became one with man, just as He is one with God. And as a result, He bridged the distance between God the Father and mankind.
Jesus is Savior. He is the Messiah. And before He can be the author and finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:2), the Chief Cornerstone (Ps. 18:22), the King of Kings (Rev 17) or the Light of the World (John 8:12), He must FIRST be MESSIAH. He must be our personal Savior, as explained in John 3:16-21.
What Jesus wants is for us, the church, to go into all the world and represent Him to a broken and hurting people. We have to be like Jesus. Even Jesus subjected Himself to a process that readied Him for His primary purpose on this Earth — the cross. Likewise, we must choose to undergo the process it takes to become like Him.
