Knowing God the Holy Spirit, Pt 3
We continued discussing the Holy Spirit this week in our Back 2 the Basics sermon series. We see the Holy Spirit in action in Judges 15:9-16. The Philistines had set up camp in Judah and were attacking them in retaliation against Samson, and would not stop until they were satisfied with their revenge. So, the people of Judah bound Samson with ropes and handed him over to the Philistines to do with him as they wished. But the Spirit of God came upon Samson and he snapped the ropes and killed a thousand Philistines with a donkey’s jawbone.
The Holy Spirit would occasionally come upon people in the Old Testament (i.e. Moses at the Red Sea, David and Goliath, etc) But now we can be filled and walk around with Him on the inside of us!
So who IS the Holy Spirit? He is power! We don’t have to be intimidated or scared of things of the Spirit. In fact, you could argue that the things of the Spirit are more real than the things of the physical because it was the Spirit of God who spoke the physical into existence!
He is the gift-giver and fruit-bearer. You can see what the fruit of the flesh and the fruit of the spirit as they are outlined in Galatians 5:19-23. Furthermore, He gives the specific gifts to believers (1 Corinthians 12:4-11). Listen to the podcast attached to get the full explanation and the different categories of gifts, as this is an this extremely important role of the Spirit.
He wants participants — vessels, temples and conduits of His Spirit! Are the attributes of the Spirit displayed in your life, or is there more evidence of the flesh? Spend more time in prayer and the Word than any other secular influence.
